DSG & TCU Tuning: Why Your Gearbox Needs a Tune Too
· 1 min read · PTEB Tuning
Engine tunes get the attention, but on most modern performance cars the gearbox decides whether the power actually reaches the road. That's where a TCU (transmission control unit) tune comes in.
What a TCU tune changes
- Torque limits — so the gearbox accepts the engine's new output.
- Clutch clamping pressure — to stop slip on dual-clutch gearboxes.
- Shift speed and logic — quicker, firmer shifts in sport modes.
- Launch control — higher launch rpm and better launches.
Signs you need one
Flaring revs between gears, slipping under full throttle, or the car cutting power in lower gears are all signs the gearbox is limiting the engine tune.
